Hondarribia’s fleet is the Association’s Heart, being each fleet unit an independent company. The boats which compose it are working in several species capture during the year, depending on the fishing season: Anchovy and mackerel will be followed by the king, the red tuna or blue fin tuna, and the albacore tuna.
The fleet is strongly and permanently compromised with sustainable fishing methods, which will grant the survival of the species. Those are traditional systems which have been passed from grandparents to fathers, then to sons, generation after generation, thus renewing this town’s compromise with the fishing activities.
 
On the other hand, security for the fishermen is a must, as well as achieving the best working conditions. There after, renewing and modernizing the fleet are constant tasks, by including the latest communication and location technologies. |
